My mother, knowing I was a vegetarian (by choice, not a "religion"), once sent me a Thanksgiving Day card. The cover showed a turkey up on a soapbox. When you open the card, the turkey is telling the assembled crowd, "This Thanksgiving, remember, You Are What You Eat."
I try to be thankful every meal, and one pet peeve is, somehow - maybe it's just the times we live in - people at the table seem to bring up some health issue or global atrocity. I figure the meal time event is an opportunity to come together and for that short period, put such events aside and recognize being with friends, under a roof, with abundance on the table. Leave all "Schrödinger's Cat is dead" issues aside at mealtime.
