Affordable hammocks

Funny thing, I thought hammocks were expensive until I priced it out. My Hennessy Ultralite hammock + tarp + straps cost me less than my Big Agnes tent, and it’s lighter too. Without insulation, the whole system was under $300. For the same money, I got more comfort and less weight!

Have you found hammocks to be cheaper than tents when you factor in your own gear?

yeah, this is exactly why I switched. A Kammok Mantis UL gives you everything at a weight that would cost you $600+ in the tent world.
plus, you get a chair for camp included in that price! Have you noticed if your pack volume changed much? My hammock gear usually squishes down smaller than my old tent poles ever did

@niamh yep, this is the reality. while a basic hammock is cheap, a full & comfortable system (tarp, bug net, suspension, underquilt/pad) usually rivals or exceeds the cost and weight of a comparable tent, especially for ultralight setups
yeah, fr some, hammocks offer unbeatable comfort and a feather light pack, making them a tempting choice
it all comes down to balancing setup costs, weight, and your own sleep style
