sierra madre research puffle for a hammock newbie?

I'm just getting into hammock camping and I'm heading out with my brothers next week.
I need an underquilt and a top quilt, and I've been eyeing the sierra madre research puffle since I already have one of their hammocks and really like it.
They have a buy one get one deal right now which is super tempting, but I can't seem to find a lot of reviews for the Puffle outside of their website.

I'm worried about buying something that looks great in the ads but isn't actually good gear.
Does anyone have experience with these? Are they legit, or should I just skip the sale and look for something else?

What's your favorite underquilt and a top quilt brand?

This forum doesn't yet have any offers in the Classified section yet, but other hammock forums (hammockforums.net) do. Probably half my gear has been purchased "used". When well cared for, a quilt can be "as new" for years and years.

Note, once you get into the buy/sell, it can be several degrees more complicated. How do you protect members from scams? Usually, money is transferred before the product is sent. How are returns handled, etc.? In some forums, you have to have at least 50 posts before you are allowed to post a For Sale ad. The idea is, at least you are not a "fly-by-night", one-off, poster who will take the money and disappear.

So it's tough. We want to trust, and we don't want to be naive. Just life.

Sierra Madre Research Puffle seems to be a versatile piece of gear that works as a blanket, top quilt, or underquilt, which is definitely a plus for a beginner.

But from whatI've read online, it looks like the Puffle does not have the same widespread recognition as other more established hammock insulation brands. I haven't tried it myself but I read some say Puffle is a great, functional blanket for general use, it might not be as specialized or lightweight as dedicated quilts from other manufacturers.

I follow and buy brands like Hammock Gear, Warbonnet Outdoors, and Jacks R Better which are considered top choices in the hammock camping and gets a lot of thumbsup from the community but I think Puffle is a good starting point.

It’s not hype, but it’s not magic either. The Puffle is legit for what it is like a versatile quilt that can work in many roles. But in serious cold or damp, having a real underquilt is safer. if I were you I’d snatch the deal (if price is good) and treat it as a “bonus quilt.” Meanwhile, line up a solid underquilt from EE or Hammock Gear so you’re covered if temps dip.
