I have a Jungle Hammock but it isn't a used military issue. At one time I had a small hatchback car and designed a simple system to use it to travel light. I'll try to make a sketch and post it. But the car got vastly greater gas mileage than my Van-Rig., so if I could g.et into a free national or state park early and find a suitable space, then I could set up and break camp quickly.

Alan, my Jungle style Hammock looks about like this one.

The difference is the roof is a light green (think of those tents the Boy Scouts use) and the bottom is heavy white canvas. I've thought of getting a can of spray paint (olive drab color) and painting/staining the canvas bottom. The roof is already water proof tent canvas.

These hammocks can be suspended between trees or post above the ground or pitched on the ground like a tent. Just depends on what is available to rig it with.

One end is shrouded with canvas and the other end is covered with mosquito netting like the two sides. The bottom has loops sewed to them where the ropes go thru those to the metal rings. The ropes that lash to the trees will tie thru the metal rings at both ends.

The image is what I would called "Pitched Sharp" for the benefit of the photo.

I like that. I am not fond of sleeping on the ground. It's bumpy and critters, small and large, exist.
